Vacation Rental home in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin
A new home on the vacation rental market in Door County, the Triangle House sits on the shore of Lake Michigan just outside of Sturgeon Bay. The owners, Leslie and Ray, have worked all spring to get it up and running and invited us up for a stay in the home before it opened up to renters. We’ll share more below, but all their hard work has paid off and it’s a very well-stocked home with beautiful scenery and ambiance, as well as some fun outdoor amenities!
Door County, WI Adventures
We had visited Door County earlier this spring (here’s that blog post about Door County in the off-season) but it was still pretty chilly. This time around, the weekend weather looked beautiful on Saturday with sunshine and highs nearing 80 degrees. We made the easy 3 hour drive from Madison on Friday morning and arrived around lunch time. Per usual, the kids ran into the house and blew through all the rooms to check it out – one of their favorite things to do at a new rental.
We took advantage of nice afternoon weather for a late lunch on an outdoor patio in town before settling in for a rainy evening at the Triangle House. We were able to get an outdoor fire started while the kids and dads played some soccer in the backyard and made s’mores. The kids loved collecting sticks (or…gathering twigs? 🙂 for the s’mores with all the cool driftwood along the waterfront. Shortly after, the rain forced us to move indoors for some games in the living room.
Saturday was the perfectly summer day. The guys started with a run around the area while we enjoyed coffee on the deck. The kids had been bugging us incessantly to sit in the hot tub, so we threw on swimsuits and obliged for a little while before moving to the (freezing cold!) water out back. It was a slow and quiet start to the day, with some hammock time along the lakefront. Our favorite part of this home? Hearing the waves crash against the shoreline, especially at night with the windows open!
Katie’s family headed up to explore at Peninsula State Park near Fish Creek, while Sara and her kids spent the afternoon at a nearby beach. The Sturgeon Bay Canal Park was a 5-minute drive north down narrow Lake Michigan Avenue and had a small parking area with a nice sandy beach and views of the lighthouse. There weren’t any restrooms or lifeguards here but it was pretty quiet for a warm Saturday afternoon and was nice being so close to the Triangle House.
We met up for dinner and drinks together at One Barrel Brewing in Egg Harbor and headed back to the Triangle House and called it an early night. Everyone was wiped from being in the sun all day so the kids got showers and movie night on the big sectional before settling in to “their” bunk room.
About the Triangle House

This home has so many features that can be utilized year round. You know we love a good winter campfire which would be the perfect compliment to the outdoor hot tub and a roaring indoor fire in the wood-burning fireplace. In addition to the lakefront, this home also has a large flat backyard with some wooded areas to play and explore (freeze tag and obstacle courses are a favorite of our kids) as well. The neighborhood was a quiet residential area or make the short drive to Canal Park and walk along the waterfront.
Indoors, the home is perfectly stocked with everything you need. The kitchen had a full assortment of dishes, utensils, and appliances (and we could appreciate their organization with everything nicely labeled!) and had plenty of seating at the large table and island. The two bathrooms (each with a shower) were stocked as well and all the bed and bath linens in the home were very nice – a little touch we always love. The laundry in the basement was also an added benefit. Each corner of the Triangle Home had cozy benches and nooks. We loved the minimalist feel and Scandinavian-style decor in the home and ALL. THE. WINDOWS. It was full of natural light and was so nice to open the windows up and hear the waves.
The actual home and layout itself was one of the most unique ones we’ve seen, yet still very functional. It’s called the Triangle House for a reason, after all. Entering the home, the main level features the living room, kitchen and dining room as well as a half bathroom. Up the spiral staircase to the second floor, there are two queen bedrooms and an additional half bathroom. The spiral staircase takes you up to the third floor which has a set of twin bunk beds to sleep a total of 4. Up the staircase again (we were usually getting pretty winded by this point!) was the lookout tower with benches and windows to enjoy the view.
Dog-Friendly Rental Home
An additional benefit that we always love in a rental home? Dog-friendly! Well-behaved dogs are allowed with owner permission. Our guys loved joining along and watching out the back windows. They were pretty wiped out by the end of the night too and enjoyed snuggling up together on their dog beds 🙂
While this stay was hosted by the owners, we would absolutely recommend a stay at this home if you’re looking to explore the Door County area or just in need of a relaxing place. The home best suits two families – we had 4 adults and 4 kids and our 3 dogs. It wouldn’t be great with toddlers or anyone with physical limitations, as the bedrooms are located on the upper floors and the spiral staircase can be treacherous.
