(Globe dining in general does give some a false sense of security, so obviously be smart during this pandemic and only visit with your immediate household members or people within your small “social bubble”. If you wouldn’t feel comfortable having someone in your living room, it’s not a good idea to hang out in the Globes together. We’ve mentioned this many times, but we’ve chosen to be very transparent with each other about what we do / who we see and feel safe including eachother’s family in our very limited “bubble” of people.)
Here’s a little history lesson…
A couple years ago, Sara stumbled across an Instagram account for a flower farm in the Middleton/Cross Plains area called Mad Lizzie’s Flower Farm. The owner, Katy Ripp, had a cute little roadside flower stand. Come to find out, she also does a Bouquet CSA and fun DIY events like Buckets O’ Blooms and Build Your Own Bouquet bars. We attended a couple of her “Flower Crown Workshops” where Mad Lizzie’s teamed up with some local Madison photographers to host a mother-daughter day crafting flower crowns and then having professional photos taken. Since following Mad Lizzie’s, we found out about the newest venture, a wine bar in the small town of Cross Plains, Wisconsin and the Globes.
Nineteen09 Wine Bar – Cross Plains, Wisconsin
This year, more than ever, we’re feeling the need to be creative with our outdoor activities and find new ways to have fun, stay warm, and be safe. While outdoor dining in Wisconsin certainly has its challenges in winter, many businesses have rose to the occasion and come up with some great ideas. One of those businesses is Nineteen09 Wine Bar in Cross Plains, Wisconsin. A beautiful old historic building at 1909 Main Street was purchased and completely renovated by the owners, Katy and Dale, and offers self-service wine pours, as well as bottled craft beer and ciders.
The Globes – A Fun outdoor Experience
In addition to the indoor space (which also can host small gatherings and workshops), the outdoor patio is the perfect place in summer to sit under the string lights. The newest addition to this awesome venue is the Globes – outdoor enclosed “igloos” available for reservation. Inside the Globes, there is a small electric fireplace to keep things cozy, as well as blankets and seating for up to 8 people.
Nineteen09 has gone above and beyond to provide a safe space for guests. The entire visit can be done basically contactless, from reserving your Globe ahead of time and purchasing your wine bottles and snacks online. The staff will have your Globe fully set up – as well as a phone number and QR code to use for refills, if needed.
The Nineteen09 website (which is also designed with impeccable taste!) covers every single detail about the wine bar, the food options, the Globe reservations, as well as FAQ’s about weather and BYOF (bring your own food – and yes, you can!). Visit the website here for all the information and more:
Day Date for the Family (Kid-Friendly!)
For our first visit, we chose the Family Friendly Globe reservation. It included 90 minutes of Globe time with comfortable seating for our group of eight (4 adults, 4 kids). The Globe was stocked with a pitcher of warm apple cider and plate of cookies for the kids (and Sara). We poured some wine from the self-service machine and our husbands were happy to browse the craft beer selection. We had brought some games from home and the kids were easily entertained watching Travis fail miserably at ‘Headbands;. If you’re looking to “get out” with the family, this is the perfect way to do so! Make sure to check out the Family Friendly reservations on their website for all the details and to reserve your Globe.
Date Night Out For The Adults
We also intended to come back for a second visit with the Standard Reservation for a couples date night but one couple had to err on the side of caution for safety reasons (ugh, Covid) and Sara’s babysitter option fell through, leaving the husbands to stay home with the kids while we enjoyed a night out together! Madison had gotten several inches of snow that day so it was a true snow globe experience! We were perfectly warm with the fireplace and content in our Globe with a bottle of red wine between us, a veggie + hummus platter we’d pre-ordered before arriving, and Taylor Swift’s new album playing on the provided bluetooth speaker. It was a really fun night out – we highly recommend either the Family Friendly or Standard Reservation for Date Night! (There’s also a Bubbly Bubbles brunch option, with mimosas + bagels!)
